MEN OF IRWIN
Present. Involved. Committed.
Established in October 2012, under the leadership of Principal of David Legrand
The purpose of Men of Irwin is to:
• Increase the image and visibility of MEN consistently within the school (classroom, activities, events, PTA, school committees, etc)
• Make the choice to become actively involved
• Become committed to serve and support the school
• Network and fellowship with one another
Research indicates that when Fathers are involved in schools:
• Higher likelihood of a student receiving mostly A's
• Children that do not have a father involved in their lives are two times more likely to drop
out of school.
• Children of highly involved fathers graduate with a higher level of education.
• When dads are more involved, their children get better grades, have fewer
behavioral problems in school, and are less likely to drop out of school than when
dads aren't involved.
• Play games that teach basic skills to your child, like math, reading, and writing.
Use the fun times you spend with your child to enrich their education.
When Fathers are Involved: Behavior and Social Skills:
• Research shows that children behave more positively when dads are involved in their lives.
• Children with involved fathers tend to have more self-control and tend to be less impulsive.
• Children tend to have a higher self-esteem and be more generous.
• Fathers are a positive force in the lives of children and their community.
