Wonder what's involved in holding a PTA position? We've got something for everyone! Everyone has something they can offer, no matter the skill set!
Irwin is a full-magnet program.
No one attends Irwin by default.
Your student is enrolled at Irwin because you entered a lottery to get that spot - because you cared about your child’s educational experience. You thought Irwin was the best choice for your child. And to keep our programs running, we need you to carry through on your commitment to keeping our school the best it can be: volunteer!

Committee Spotlights:
Fundraising committees:
Each of these committees is comprised of a committee chairperson and other members.
- Boosterthon - Boosterthon is the coordination of the Fun Run. The Boosterthon chair coordinates with the VP Gold on this event. The position is largely remote and email-centered until the two weeks surrounding the event, which require some in-person time. The Boosterthon partnership contributes content and timeline, providing smooth sailing for this position!
- Loyalty Programs - Help connect passive fundraising programs such as Harris Teeter VIC and Amazon Smile to the Irwin PTA
- Rock Reservations - If you've ever reserved the Spirit Rock, you know what a streamlined position this is. It's entirely offsite and online communication - perfect for someone who'd rather work outside of school hours. The workload is minimal!
- Book Fair - Irwin hosts two book fairs per year, in the winter and the spring. The Book Fair chair coordinates with the fantastic Ms. Felicia Brown, our Media Specialist, to produce the content. Time commitment is centered around the two fairs.
- Spring Musical - be the PTA contact for the Drama Club production
- Spirit Nights - Coordinate with local restaurants to host Spirit Nights 2-4 times per year. We've enjoyed Spirit Nights at several local restaurants in the past and they are all well-versed in the planning process. Some restaurants will contribute as much as 50% of the proceeds to our school, so we can enjoy a night out with our Irwin Families and give back to our school at the same time. A few phone calls and you're done!
- Box Tops - The Box Tops committee collects the clipped Box Tops from school and submits them for our credit. That's it! Coordination of this effort leads to what amounts to free money for our school. Win-win!
Communications Committees:
- Webmaster Can you build and manage a web page? This is a perfect fit for anyone with the tech savvy and - BONUS! - can be done entirely from the comfort of your couch.
- Social Media Manager - Can you toss out a few well-timed Twitter or Instagram posts? We need you! This is a perfect fit for anyone with the tech savvy and - BONUS! - can be done entirely from the comfort of your couch.
- Flyers and Marketing - if you have graphic design skills, we need you! Design occasional flyers for PTA events and initiatives.
- Weekly Hoot Newsletter Editor - Compile content weekly from PTA and administration sources. Some familiarity with MailChimp would be great, but not required. Another important job that can be done from home!
- Yearbook - work with student committee on content, coordinate purchases and input. The student committee is led by a teacher during spring clusters. Who doesn't love yearbook? It's like the ultimate in scrapbooking and memory keeping!
- Volunteer Coordinator - Know how we get all those people to work all those events at school? That's right: the Volunteer Coordinator. This person sends the Signup Genius emails and manages volunteer needs for events. The Volunteer Coordinator is also the point person for room parents.
- Audit Committee - the Audit Committee provides a vital service but is largely uncelebrated. At the close of the fiscal year, the Audit Committee will review the PTA’s books. The time commitment is clustered around the actual audit and does not repeat until the following year. (Three members on the committee)
Events Committees:
- Fall Festival - Committee helps coordinate vendors, decorations, activities, and food for a fall festival in October.. Some hands-on time is required, but it is centered around the event itself.
- Mother Son Event - This committee puts together the companion event to the Father-Daughter Dance. It generally takes place in February/March, and most time commitment is centered around the event.
- Father-Daughter Dance - this annual event celebrates Irwin’s fathers and daughters! If you love planning a party, this is the placement for you. The dance is usually held the first weekend of February, and time commitment begins a couple of months prior.
- Pajama Jam - This back-to-school event is a student favorite! The committee secures decorations, swag for purchase, and other entertainment for the event. As with other event committees, your time commitment is centered around the event itself.
- Teacher & Staff Appreciation - Do you enjoy food and people? Get to know the teachers & staff as part of this team!
Community Service:
Each of these committees is comprised of a committee chairperson and other members.

- School Store Manager - This would be a great fit for co-chairs! The School Store is typically open one morning a week, and co-chairs could easily switch off managing duties.
- Online Store Manager - manages the online Owl Store as needed, which is infrequently. Does not require any in-school, hands-on time.
