IAC ROOM PARENTS - Supporting Teachers & Students in the Classroom
Did you know? Being an Irwin Room Parent gives you great access to meet your child's friends and see first hand the amazing work being done by our teachers every day!
Room parents help our school be more successful by:
There are a wide variety of ways that one can volunteer in the classroom. Volunteers are needed to assist in classrooms for as little as 30 minutes a handful of times a year, once a month and/or weekly. Volunteers are also needed for field trips and special projects. Teachers often utilize clerical help such as cutting and sorting that can be done at home and during non-school hours.
There are four primary areas for this role:
1. Assisting the teachers with scheduling volunteers
2. Assisting the teachers with soliciting items needed for class activities
3. Organizing ways to occasionally express appreciation to your classroom teachers
4. Serve as a liaison between the PTA committees and the classroom parents. Please check email frequently in order to distribute information to parent volunteers and
classroom parents in a timely manner.
The amount of time and work this job will require is different for each grade level. Please take guidance from your teacher and understand responsibilities in a Kindergarten classroom may differ from those in an uppergrade classroom. Also, do not feel that you must be in the classroom often, or attend every field trip, or provide items for every party. You should assign these responsibilities to other parents.

Friendly Reminder: It is a CMS requirement that all school volunteers must register in their system. If you have volunteered previously, you still must renew your registration every school year. You will need to register with them at https://www.cmsvolunteers.com/. Also, if you are new to Irwin please be sure to add it to your list of schools.
