Turkey Trot 2022
The IAC Turkey Trot will be held on the afternoon of Tuesday, November 22.
The Turkey Trot is a creative and active event that Irwin provides to the students as an opportunity for our Irwin Owls to participate in Service Learning. Students in each grade level will compete in a race to win a Thanksgiving meal item (turkeys, pies, etc.) The winning class will donate their meal items to a charitable organization. This year, students will select from the following organizations:
Bright Blessings: Bright Blessings is a volunteer-led organization that impacts more than 27,000 homeless and impoverished children each year. Through its core programs; Bless-A-Birthday, Bless-A-Baby, Gift of Literacy, and Gift of Care, Bright Blessings has served more than 100,000 children since its beginning. Bright Blessings now has partnerships with over 30 local agencies and school districts and is serving children in 6 counties including Mecklenburg, Union, Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, and York.
The Relatives: The Relatives Crisis Center has been operating since 1974 providing a safe location for youth ages 7-17 who need a safe place to stay because they have run away from home, are homeless, or are in transition under the care of the Department of Social Services. For up to 21 days, youth have a safe place to go where they and their families can work on the issues that brought them to our Youth Crisis Center.
Please join our scholars on the 22nd to cheer them on!
